mobscenity:

One of the Universal Truths that lie just beyond the fabric of modern society is the axiom that geeks, along with nerds and other peoples who overinvest in intelligence but boast underdeveloped social skills, make the best lovers. Once people realize this, the sexual revolution that will sweep through western culture will make the seventies look like the fifties, and I’m not talking about wider pants. The reasons why geeks are unparalleled as lovers are simple and many:

Geeks don’t sleep around. Geeks, through their higher IQ and therefore greater understanding of the tragedy of human condition, know that the dice only seem to have more sides on the other side of the table. Hence, they instinctively stay loyal to their lovers through thick and thin. Their social skills are also not well developed enough to support an affair, and frankly, geeks generally aren’t quite sure how they ended up with the lover they have attracted. When you date a geek, you know the geek will be yours until you are done.

Geeks are good at the things they try. When’s the last time you met a geek who didn’t have some secret skill just simmering below the surface of a simple-seeming life, honed in the wee hours of the night? It could be hacking, playing video games, or the ability to insert and remove those stupid computer power plug things from drives without cursing or breaking a finger. Let sex become their new favorite late-night hobby, and you know that a geek won’t quit until he or she has learned how to hack into your brainstem through specific genitalia interfacing in parallel with general dermal and oral bonding.

Geeks are not interested in status. Geeks became geeks because they chose to spend their time doing things that would not necessarily make them popular with everyone else in school, like sports and fashion. The ability to resist peer pressure is important to a geek. This means that a geek is more interested in their or your happiness than looking good to others, which will come in handy when either (a) you need attention, in any sort ranging from the nurturing to the lascivious, and also, because both of those things are not necessarily unorthagonal dimensions, any combination of the two, or (b) you need to be rescued because it is the climax of a teen 80’s movie. Or both.

Geeks haven’t formed bad habits. After years of serially dating lots of other women, many socially successful guys have become too confident to be intimate, think of women only for sex, and don’t have any intention of letting what in their minds is “just another girlfriend” enjoy the last spring roll. Let us not even pry into the diabolical, dark, twisted, and depraved mind of the girl who has serially dated many men. None of this is true of the geek, however. The lack of past romantic partners allows the geek to approach lovers with the zest of the neophyte. Geeks are not full of romantic confidence; however, once coaxed from their emotional holes like tame bunnies, they are eager to please and enjoy their newfound relationship.

Geeks can concentrate. Geeks can focus their energy on one task with the intensity of a hunting cheetah. Granted, the task they are focusing on may have more to do with hunting orcs with a +1 Sword of Piercing rather than hunting gazelles with claws, but the fact remains that a geek, once set upon a task and given Mountain Dew, becomes a tireless slave to their goal. Put a six-pack of Dew on the bedside table and a geek between the sheets, and you have found yourself one relentless lover. When’s the last time all night actually meant all night? When’s the last time you were with someone who, if they needed more of the night, knew how to get it?

Geeks have excellent finger dexterity. Geeks roll dice. Geeks play video games. Geeks flip pages in books. Geeks type a lot, and use characters like ~ and ^ and | that no one else has any use for. Geeks use calculators in postfix notation. As a result, a geek knows how to use his or her fingers to greatest possible effect. Whether you have a button that needs pushing or a joystick that needs joy, a geek is the person for the job.

Geeks have imagination. Once you have found your amazing lover, you wouldn’t want things to become boring. That is where geeks prove their real worth. Replayability is important to the value-conscious video-game playing geek, and this translates to relationships as well. Wouldn’t you want to date someone who has created a Quake 3 mod? Wouldn’t you want to date someone who has written steamy Everquest fan fiction involving elven incest? Wouldn’t you want to date someone who wished they were Morpheus rather than someone who wished they were Barry Bonds?

There are plenty of other reasons why geeks are the best lovers around, but don’t just take my word for it. Find the nearest sexy geek and coax that person into asking you out, even if you have to do so using instant messanger. Remember: the only non-sexy geek is a single geek.

My girlfriend, a Communications major, just got annoyed with “cockiness” over the phone a couple of minutes ago. Her hanging up made me stop and think about why I actually do dislike SSHA majors so much. Here’s why:

This general disdain toward SSHA majors spurred itself into existence from my previous insecurities about going to a third tier UC. However, upon further research, I’ve come to the general conclusion that, most of the time, it doesn’t matter where you graduate, but instead what you study and what you did at that institution (I said most of the time. Don’t get me wrong. Harvard is still fucking Harvard, mang. However, a Humanities degree from UC Berkeley will leave you unemployed, said the recent UCB graduate who bought my family’s couches. She was a Humanities major and she was unemployed.).

Here’s the deal. It’s nothing personal, but I feel that most SSHA majors are walking blindly into their futures, squandering any talent that they have on professions that are slowly dwindling in demand. Often lead by misinformation from college advisers, most students aren’t seeing the general scheme of things in terms of what’s practical in this society of ours. Below, I hit the most popular SSHA majors and explain why they suck.

Political Science
Law school is a great ambition, but let’s examine the current state our economy is in. There are too many lawyers jostling for a few coveted spots at the remaining firms that didn’t go under at the start of this recession. Don’t think these firms are going to bounce back any time soon either. Established firms, esteemed in tradition and history (100+ years in business) found themselves falling by the wayside in record numbers. A few years isn’t going to be enough to bring these giants back.

If you want to make money, you go into litigation (Believe me. I was a Political Science major seriously considering law school. I even attended a conference at UC Hastings, facilitated by the admissions officers there). In litigation, you’re either an asshole (aka, defense attorney) or work for the man (aka, D.A.). The maintenance of justice in our society is undeniably an important undertaking. However, in the state that our economy is in, new lawyers will be hard pressed at finding firms accepting applicants. Also, who do you think a client would rather have work for them, the fresh college graduate or the seasoned partner at the firm? Thought so.

Management / Economics
Pupils studying management/economics are wasting their time. Do you really think an organization is going to let the young gun straight out of college come in and run the place? Would you if you were a 10 year employee who hadn’t seen a promotion in 5 years? Most organizations award management positions to employees who display excellence in a specialized field. You’re not going to be the big boss just because your degree says you can manage people. Experience and connections will get you into those types of positions. You gain experience by doing something useful for the company, usually something of a specialized nature.

Also, Economics is applied mathematics and game theory. Skip the middle-man and study the original. It’ll do you more good in the future.

Psychology
What does a degree in Psychology get you? Working retail. How do I know? That’s where my older cousins are now after getting their degrees from B.U. It’s also the most popular major on college campuses. If many of you can do a single thing (which I have yet to figure out), then why should a company pay you adequately or hire you?

Additionally, psychiatrists go to medical school. You can still major in Psychology and be a psychiatrist, but since you’d have to take the same amount of biology, math, chemistry, and physics courses as a normal biology major, I don’t really consider you a SSHA major.

Communications
Don’t kill me, Mingi. According to this Princeton Review website, “Communications majors tend to be great storytellers with quick wits and fiery personalities. You’ll spend a significant amount of time scrutinizing different kinds of presentations—such as speeches and scripts—and the strategies behind the messages that speakers and writers use to make their points”.

You don’t need a degree in Communications to tell whether or not someone is lying to you, whether or not a speech is great, or whether or not the presentation’s subtleties were tastefully curated by the speaker. What I get from the above passage is you will learn how to read too deeply into trivial matters. Ok, I’ll admit it’s pretty awesome that authors, presenters, and speakers put depth and meaning behind every syllable they speak or write, but when was the last time such analysis saved lives? Cured a disease? Improved humanity besides providing the warm and fuzzy feeling of understanding something on a deeper, symbolic level? Thought so.

Conclusion
Again, this was nothing personal. I don’t say all of these to be mean or to hold my studies higher than anyone elses’. I’m pointing these out because I don’t want my close friends, the people I care about, to find themselves jobless 10 years from now because nobody will hire them.

If one of the above majors is your passion, then by all means be happy. Seriously. Life is too short to be unhappy and not be doing what you want. However, in this capitalistic society, money rules everything around us and individual worth is based on what you can do for the rest of us. Is this wrong? Sure, but that’s for another rant.

As much as I like being right, this is one “I told ya so” I don’t want to say.

I haven't been this excited for school since 4th grade.

It’s insane how perfectly our body works. Seriously. I’m sitting there in molecular bio just appalled at life’s complexity. Nerdy? Sure. But seriously, just stop and think for a moment about how intricate and precise life is. All of the processes going on this very moment, how they’re balanced with one another…how I’m even allowed to type this right now.

Mind blown.

Right now, I’m loving molecular biology. Chemistry, not so much, but we’re getting there.

Damn, I love school. Hopefully, it loves me back with some sweet midterm grades next week.
